Jazz Picnic

SAT 31

Queen Porter Stomp describe the key ingredient in their mixture of blues, folk and jazz as ‘dirty swamp magic’, and this six-piece band mix horns, banjo, accordion and drums to create an enthusiastically filthy, human rave-up.

The band have been playing shows since 2014, and have been booked for nearly every Australian festival you can play including Woodford Folk Festival, Newtown Festival and Falls Festival. There’s a strain of modernity running through these compositions, bringing trad-style swing into a contemporary context without losing any of that Prohibition-era charm.

In this iteration, Queen Porter will evoke the spirit of the classic picnics of the Sydney Jazz Club, setting up live on the lawns of SIMA’s new home base at the Joynton Avenue Creative Centre.

BYO picnics, rugs, hats + sunscreen!
